Virginia To has twenty years of experience leading traditional and distributed teams of academia, industry, and government research personnel in the High Performance Computing Community. Her ability to understand the constraints under which each organization operates and utilize that information to the best interests of a program’s objectives has been a hallmark of her career. She has managed a number of complex technical and scientific programs: developing strategic plans and technical program roadmaps; managing all aspects of program/project financials, schedules and deadlines; establishing lasting and strong relationships with academic, DoD, commercial, and government scientific partners; and representing clients’ interests at working groups, consortiums, and conferences.
Prior to forming vtk Solutions, Ms. To was a Sr. Director for Science and Technology at HPTi where she defined, developed and grew the practice to encompass initiatives in high performance computing tools and environments; information assurance; modeling and simulation; education, outreach and training. As Chief of the Simulation Methodology Branch at the Army Research Laboratory, she resourced and defined new programs and facilities for ARL’s new mission in simulation and high performance computing technologies focused on integrating physics-based models into interactive, event-driven simulations for training, and synthetic test & evaluation.
Ms. To has been a member of the SCxy Conference Executive Committee for the last six years. For SC2004 she was the Executive Director and also the StorCloud Chair. For SC|05, she continues to chair StorCloud. StorCloud is a special initiative to build a High Performance Computing (HPC) storage capability showcasing HPC storage technologies (topologies, devices, interconnects) and applications.
Ms. To graduated with a B.A. in Mathematics from Barnard College and an M.S. in Computer Science from Johns Hopkins University
